MacBook Pro - SATA - FireWire problem - upgrade hard drive
I've 1.83 GHz MacBook Pro. I wan to upgrade the 80GB drive to 160GB
The only think I don't understand in the process is how to connect the new drive to firewire to make the initial backup before I open my MAC and swap the drive. The problem is with the SATA interface - how do I connect the new 160GB drive to FIREWIRE port? Is THERE a point and an obvious solution I'm missing? I didn't find any enclosure/case for SATA 2.5 drives for FIREWIRE. Only for USB - but that's slow and I cannot boot from it. any info most apreciated |
Actually, you can boot from a USB drive on an Intel Mac. But there's also a FireWire->SATA bridge available from WiebeTech that I use all the time. They have a number of different models, I use the SATADock.
Make sure, if you're going to install this internally, that you partition with GUID! |

Yep -- only Intel, but it does work. (I recommend FireWire anyway -- faster/better/etc.)
