drag and drop

Hello you guys, I'm bucky the rookie

I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.11, on a iMac Intel 2 GHz machine. Two weeks ago I purchased a Lacie "Little Disc" 160 GB, firewire hard drive, this is to accommodate Leopard when the BUGS are fixed, if I live long enough that is !

I backed up my Mac HD using disc utility and Lacie's software "Silverkeeper", this took me over one and a half hours. Last Tuesday I bought Super Duper and with the software I erased the volume with the Silverkeeper back up on and did another back up which I verified, this time the erase and back up took less than thirty minutes.

Congratulations and thank you to Dave Nanian and team, a magic piece of software.

When I upgrade to Leopard I'm not sure if I will use Time Machine or not. Possibly a back up weekly with Super Duper and copy other important files as and when needed to a separate partition. I'm new to this hard drive eqipment and wondered if any of you Guy's could help. Is it possible to drag and drop files on to the hard disk icon to save them, and similarly when replacing the files open the hard drive in the finder and drag and drop the files to the desktop or their location.

Regards and thanks in anticipation.

You can certainly drag things from the backup to their location on the regular drive, but don't copy things to the same volume you're using for the backup -- instead, partition the drive into two volumes, one for a storage location and one for your backup. (See "Storing a backup alongside other files on a destination drive" in the User's Guide.)

Glad it's working well for you, bucky!
