I have had a (legitimate) copy of SuperDuper! since 2007 and I doubt that I have a program on my Mac that I use more. I have an iMac (27") and my wife also has an iMac (21"). Just last week we both received e-mails from Apple notifying us that we both need to have our hard drives replaced. I have a good back-up strategy and drive for my iMac, but my wife does not. So, I need to set up a back-up of hers before I trundle off to have her hard drive replaced. What I want to ask is: am I allowed to install my copy of SuperDuper on her iMac?:o

Thanks,

No. Your copy is licensed to you and your personal Macs. Your wife, being a different person, needs her own license...

Dave: if you don't mind, a quick question. I checked my wife's hard drive and she only has 16 GB used on a 1TB hard drive....:o

Can I use SuperDuper! with a USB memory stick/thumb drive as the 'hard drive'? Would that work?
Thanks,

Sure, on an Intel Mac. Partition and format it normally (see Help > Frequently Asked Questions, top question), and you can copy to it. Make sure it's plenty large (don't get a 16GB stick).

Note that these sticks aren't typically fast to write to.

Awesome! thanks Dave. It's only for a one-time use until I get the replacement hard drive installed so speed is not really an issue.

You don't have to purchase another copy for your wife for a one time use because there is the free version, it just doesn't do a smart update which you don't need in a one off case.
