I have two MacBook Airs and a LaCie 1TB Thunderbolt drive.

I would like to clone the second MacBook Air from a sparse image of the first stored on the LaCie drive connected via the Thunderbolt port. Bus, I am not very secure about the procedure and would be grateful if someone take me through the procedure or alternatively point me to a web site that explains it.

Thanks.

Instead, I'd boot the 2nd air into Thunderbolt Target Mode (which I believe is done with "T" during power on), attach it to the first, then use SUperDuper! to copy from the source directly to the destination, using "Backup - all files" with "Smart Update".

There's no need to use an intermediary.

Thank you for your suggestion. It worked perfectly. I documented the procedure step by step in case anyone is interested. There were a few apps to update from the App Store and DropBox login to verify and a Firmware update but all in all it took less than 45 minutes.

When a MacBook Air died recently, buying a replacement and restoring from a Time Capsule backup over a wireless link and getting my data back took a day and half so doing this once a week as a safe guard is nothing.

Thanks again ...

Remember, you can always just have a bootable backup, run off that if you're in a rush (since the source Mac may not be working any more), and restore at your leisure...
