why don't repaired permissions stay repaired?

I'm using SuperDuper! to do nightly scheduled backups to a network drive. Seems to be working well, but I wonder why it has to repair permissions on the same files every night. Why don't they stay fixed?

Ask Apple - we use Disk Utility to repair permissions. :-)
