Hi,

Does anyone know if superduper deletes the existing files on the drive it is backing up to? It says it is going to 'erase' 'xdrive'

I have lots of files on a USB i want to keep. I've put them all in a folder to keep them out of the way of the sd backup, is this the right thing to do, will I loose my files?

If so I guess I need to buy a dedicated backup USB drive for SD.

Thanks in advance

SuperDuper! is pretty clear about what it's going to do. If it says it's going to erase it, it's going to erase it. There's a whole chapter in the User's Guide about how to store a backup alongside other files on a destination drive... but it's generally best to buy another drive if you already have a lot of files on the drive... that'll let you back *them* up to (to their own partition, of course).

If that's the case it would be better if the manual made that clear from the get go. Something along the lines of:

You will need a new external backup drive before you start using this product otherwise you'll trash you're data.

People are buying 1TB plus disks these days, they don't want to give it all over to a back up.

You don't have to give it all over to a backup: you can partition the drive. I do explain this in the User's Guide, Tim.
