View Full Version : figuring out size of invisible file

A recent safety cloning failed due to insufficient space on the target drive. The log said that the offending file was " /.Spotlight-V100/ContentIndex.db", which, presumably, is a Spotlight content database. But, since it is invisible, I have no idea how to figure out how large it is so I can determine how much larger to make the partition.

Is there a straightforward way of doing that? Or is there another solution to my problem?

Thank you.

I think that the problem was more likely that Spotlight was aggressively writing its index at the time of your copy, which made it take up more space than usual. But, you can check its size in Terminal -- just do an:

ls -l /.Spotlight-V100

That will punt the files in that folder, along with their sizes.
