View Full Version : Alternate clones per night?

Does anyone run a smart update to 2 different clones on alternating nights?

I currently run a smart update to the same clone twice a week. I also have Backblaze always running, which works kind of like an offsite Time Machine, so I feel pretty covered.

But I'm wondering if I should be concerned about clone corruption, and beyond that, if two nights a week is really a good backup strategy.

Thanks for any thoughts, comments, etc.

I discuss this in the Introduction to the User's Guide - take a quick look there, eh?

I'm doing that, backing up to two different drives alternating. It has come haandy to be able to go back two days.

I've sometimes found I need to go back farther than just a day or two, so I have six backup sets: MWF, TTS, Sun odd, Sun even, beginning of odd-numbered month, and beginning of even-numbered month. Thus, I always have backups 1 and 2 days old, 1 and 2 weeks old, and 1 and 2 months old.

Yes, I HAVE gone back as much as two months to retrieve lost data.

These backups are on two different physical drives (e.g., MWF is on a different physical drive from TTS), so if one drive dies all is not lost. SuperDuper! makes it easy to do all these backups, and firewire drives are cheap, compared with the value of important data.
