Is it possible to smart update an external HDD that has 10.5.8 installed from a startup disk with 10.6.2 installed?

Yes, but given the number of changes involved it may be faster/better to do an erase-then-copy.

I did an erase then copy just in case even though the smart update worked. Thanks.
