Unable to recover from Clone

I don't know what's going on here - this is something I have done many times before with no issues. But now when I need it, it's broken!

I am running 10.6.1 and back up to an external firewire drive.

I've now replaced the HDD in my Mac and want to clone back.

I am booted from my external drive, everything works OK and I can see the "Macintosh HD" in the Finder.

However when I try to clone back I get an error:

Failed to enable ownership on Clone

It looks like this particular drive has been damaged at a low level. Do you have Disk Warrior? If so, repair the backup with Disk Warrior.

If not, use your Snow Leopard disk to erase-and-install to the internal. Then, when prompted to 'copy from another Mac', point it at the backup and it'll bring in the data and applications and leave the damage behind.
