Hi, I'm new to macs and am wondering how to restore when I have made an external bootable copy with super duper. Would I boot to osx disk and then choose restore and choose super duper volume as source and then target my internal drive where I want the restore to occur? I can restore my installation completely from a bootable drive, right? Or can I only boot from it? Any feedback appreciated!

You'll boot from the backup drive itself, or you can use Disk Utility. The User's Guide has a full discussion.

I don't think I'm asking the question correctly. My internal hard drive fails, so I boot to my external hard drive until I get a working replacement for my internal. Once my internal is replaced and working, how do I restore all of my data to my new internal drive from my external bootable copy?

I guess I would just use super duper to again, clone the bootable external image to the new working internal disc? I know I'm overthinking this... just trying to make sure I'm doing what I think I'm doing. :)

Yes, that is correct. That's what Dave meant by the first part of his answer, "You'll boot from the backup drive itself." And yes, you then just restore by cloning the external backup (from which you are booted) onto the new internal drive.

As Dave said, see the User Guide. The ONLY gotcha is that with the new drive, before cloning to it you must make sure it is partitioned and formatted like the old one was, that is, appropriately for the model of Mac you are using. The cloning from your backup WILL NOT automatically take care of that. The User Guide also covers this, or there are a lot of recent posts here about proper partitioning (even if you are only using one partition) and formatting. You do this partitioning and formatting while booted from your backup.

Good luck.

Tmay,

Thanks! I was not aware of a user's guide or what he was referring to ..... the link isn't very prominent and it isn't contained in the welcome email after purchasing..... just tracked it down, thanks again!!

It's in the program, actually: Help > User's Guide. And it's also on the download image...
