I have a 2TB Ext FW HD in Raid 0 configuration--it is an OWC pre-formatted for MAC; My User folder is protected with FileVault. The SD instructions note that you should not attempt to clone your start-up drive with FileVault activated on your User folder; the instructions recommend logging off to another user acct and then cloning your drive. But...when you create a new user with Admin privileges--doesn't that create a new user folder and then is the old Filevaulted User folder still backed up? Then upon boot--if I select my orig User name will it see that folder? I am a bit confused on how best to do this. I have a late '08 MacPro with 13GB RAM, 3 internal 1TB drives and two externals--one the aforementioned OWC Raid and the 2nd a 1.0TB Western Digital used for Time machine. Thanks.

Yes, the old FileVaulted user folder is backed up - but it's backed up while it's inactive, safely saved on the drive, which is the point.

If you back up a FileVaulted user when you're logged into it, the FileVault is open, active and being updated, and thus more likely to cause issues.
