Hey there everyone.

I am new to superduper, and have a question before i go ahead and backup my internal h/d.

Oki allow me to tell you my situation - I have just ordered a new 320gb internal h/d for my macbook, as i have run out of space on my 80gb that came with the laptop.

I also own a 320gb external harddrive that i will be using for the superduper backup. On this ext. drive, i also have a folder with a lot of movies in, as i can't fit them all on my macbook h/d.

What i am looking to do is to create a clone of my 80gb h/d using superduper, to then copy to my new internal drive when it comes. However i also want to have my movies folder on the external harddrive as well as the backup.

I want to know how i should go about this - is it possible to clone my harddrive using superduper into a folder that i create on the external harddrive, or do i have to partition the external harddrive and have movies in one partition and backup in the other?

As well as this i would also like to know what format the external harddrive needs to be to do the clone - can it be done using fat32 (so i can still use the harddrive with pc), or does it need to be nfs+?

if the answer to above is nfs+, can i partition my external harddrive so the superduper backup is nfs+ and another partition in fat32?

Apologies for the long-winded post, i would greatly appreciate the help.

Regards,

Tom

You should partition it. The partition scheme should be GUID for a MacBook (intel). The format should be HFS+ for the backup, and while you can use FAT32 for the other, I wouldn't, since that has a 4GB file size limit,a nd your movies can possibly be larger than that.
