Can I make a SD backup to a new USB 160GB iPod? I see the script in the programme but am not sure about using it. This will not be my main backup and it need not be bootable (I have a FireWire drive for that!)

You can, to an image on the drive. But please remember that iPods are not really designed for intensive I/O use. In other words, can doesn't necessarily mean "should".
