Safe to back up from intel to powerpc?

The hard drive on my imac g5 seems to have gone a bit haywire. Would it be safe to back up from my macbook pro? The only issues i can think of is that its an intel machine, and the OS might run a bit strange using powerpc machine. Anyone tried this? Cheers

I'm not quite sure what you're thinking of doing: your subject and body are 'discussing' different thing... if you're trying to replace the OS, have you tried archive-and-install?
