I've got a network image of my son's laptop on a NAS drive, IanLaptop.sparseimage and his hard drive just packed up.

[Hooray for SuperDuper!!!!]

What's my best bet for putting his machine back together once I get a new drive?

Install OSX, install SuperDuper, and restore from the network image?

Put the new drive into an external housing and <something>?

I found "boot from OSX CD-Rom, open SparseImage, restore" on pp27-28 of the SuperSuper pdf manual, but that also requires copying the sparseimage to a firewire or USB drive, yes? Can the CD-Rom see network drives?

Thanks!

Use a second Mac, put your Son's Mac in "FireWire Target Disk Mode" (hold down "T" when starting up), and mount the sparse image. Then, use SD! to copy from the image volume to the new drive.
