Backing-up to drives connected to another Mac

Would doing this mean creating Sparse Disk Images, or direct cloning to the drive (as if it were directly connected)?

I would like to avoid using Disk Images, as they simply takes DAYS to mount over Wireless.

If you're going over a network, you need to use an image, Van Helsing.
