I just got a 750 GB external drive so I'm sitting here with storage up the wazoo. Here's the schematic of what I'd like to do: first, make a bootable backup from the iMac to a partition on the big drive. Simple schedule that I've been using for a few years - every monday, wednesday, and friday at 5 am.

Second, on tuesday, thursday, and saturday make a bootable copy of the first B/U to a second partition, since some guru once told me "always backup your backup. Remember that redundancy is next to Godliness." Again, this should be a simple entry in the scheduler.

Now here's the weird part. If the second B/U exists, do a comparison between the two and copy any file that exists on the second B/U but not the first to a folder that should represent any files that were deleted in the time between the two. I could then go to that folder any time something was deleted by mistake.

I know that's what Time machine does, but this would take less storage space it seems to me.

Watcha think, Dave. Is it possible to do this with a script?

No, that's not something we do.
