I'm going to be upgrading the drive in my MacBook Pro to a 320gb soon. Tonight I decided to try the clone process on a 320gb desktop drive I have laying around. I connected the drive to my MBP via usb bridge, and proceeded to clone the existing 120gb drive to the 320. Once the clone was complete I booted to it to verify it's contents, everything is there of course. However, in finder I'm getting conflicting results about how much space is available. If I click on the drive itself, there is 212gb available, but if I click on my home folder, documents, music, desktop, or pictures, it shows 164gb available. Why is this? Only the drive and the applications folder show the correct space available.

I can post screen captures if this doesn't make any sense, and my home folder has File Vault enabled, I suspect this has something to do with it.

Here's a few shots of what I'm trying to understand. Booted to the "Test" drive.

Hope this helps.

Because your Home folder is a FileVault volume with its own size...

So why doesn't it take advantage of all the available space on the disk? Will it grow at some point and use the rest of the space?

You'd have to ask Apple that question...

Ok, I did some digging, turns out the File Vault folder grows dynamically, so when more space is needed it just acquires it.

Thanks for the great program!

Edit: or I can turn File Vault off and then turn it back on.
