Hi!

I´m not sure what how to manage the combined SD and Time Machine backups on the same partition.
Should I exclude the user-Folder in my SD-backup? And should all folders apart from the user-folder be excluded in my Time Machine backup?
What would you do?

Is my method working when I boot from the SD/TM-partition, so that I can make use of my user-data?

regards and thanks in advance,
sandro

I'd keep a full "Backup - all files", Sandro.

thanks, but why? user-folder would be twice on the partition - once as a cloned SD-folder, once in the Time Machine-folder ..

Because it'll be much, much easier to restore, and disk space is cheap.

Msg, I too asked the question, since TM. Here's what I finally decided. I make a full clone with SD. Then, I tell TM to not clone my "Pictures", and "Music" folders. I let SD handle any updates when I add photos or music.

The reason I did this was because TM does a stupid thing with Pictures folder, because the iPhoto Library is now a package. It will try to update the entire library every time you add just a few pictures. This was making me run out of room quickly. I re-established a brand new TM partition after I made this selection.
