Detailed instructions for automounting network drive?

I'm fairly new to macs and this program and have looked though prior threads to automount a network drive, but don't quite understand the discussions. Manually mounting the volume I need on the drive is no problem, but unfortunately have made very few backups since I rarely remember to manually mount. Can this be laid out in more detail, perhaps with screenshots?

In general, it should just happen automatically, bmat, if you've set things up to point to a drive that's on the network, and the password is in your Keychain...
