Dave,

Sorry to post on this topic since I've noticed a few others. But I just want to ask what are the pros and cons of Spotlight indexing of my clone? I have used SuperDuper! with great success--love it--and have never turned off indexing on my clone. I use smart update to keep my clone up to date and have never noticed any problem with delays or prolonged times for copying that might be due to indexing. I do sometimes notice sound from my peripheral drive and see the little white dot in the Spotlight magnifying glass indicating that indexing is going on. Is there any harm in leaving things as is? What do you generally recommend?

Thanks very much!

It's just slow, that's all. There's no real "disadvantage" other than the wear and tear on the drive due to the indexing (and the fact that searching for files will tend to show two -- one on the source and one on the backup).

Is there really any need for this indexing?

I came from the PC World where I got rid of indexing.

I know where I put everything, and indexing just seems to slow things down.

In general, no: the indexing is not required.

Thanks. I went ahead and disabled it on all drives.
