first backup

I am doing my first back of my G4 Laptop OS10 Tiger I started it yesterday at midday and now next day after 23 hrs the progression bar shows 10% and step 2 shows 25,421 of 539,939 files evaluated 23,445 files copies efective copy speed 0.05 mb/s 4.56 GB evaluated 0.00 mb up to date 4.37 GB copies
I have a lacie 250 GB external HD via firewire using backup - all files script step three shows make backup bootable restore spotlight state on backup unmount backup
The external hard drive (FAT32) is it that that it is making it copy so slow?
My laptop hard drive has 74 GB in use 34 GB

If you're storing on an image on that FAT32 drive, what's causing it to go so slow is that it's failing. As explained in the User's Guide, you cannot store an image on a FAT32 drive: it has a maximum file size of 4GB...
