(sorry this really isn't a specifically-SD post :)

I am putting a new boot drive into my G5 this weekend. I want to put a clean copy of Tiger on it then use Migration Assistant to move all my junk over because I have been updating and cloning the OS since 10.1 on my old G4 (surprisingly it mostly still works but it is time for a refresh).

In the past when I have used MA it was by plugging in another Mac in Firewire target disk mode. Now that I have an image of my old boot drive on an external drive (as a disk image, not as a clone), will MA "see" this as a usable source volume as long as it is mounted? I don't want to use the Disk Util Restore function as I want a clean OS.

I'm pretty sure the migration assistant won't work with an image. Basically, the migration assistant runs before you get a chance to do much of anything, so you can't mount the image and get it available so you can point at it as a partition.

You'll need to restore it to a real drive and then migrate from that...
