I just get a 2.5" SATA drive and put it in a USB 2.0 enclosure today. (I really wish I could find a firewire one, this thing is dog slow.) Anyway, I started my first clone of my system drive a little while ago and... there's some problem with one of the USB ports on my USB hub and it randomly disconnected the drive.

Now, instead of showing the proper volume name "Ice Truck" it shows up as "Ice Truck 1." I'm sure that functionally, this doesn't affect anything but it ANNOYS me and all my analness. It also has me curious as to what file contains that information. I cleared the preferences and the caches and everything. (Heck, I even had to reenter my serial number!) But it's still showing up "Ice Truck 1." Is there some way to get rid of that?

Use Finder's "Go To Folder" command to open OSX's hidden

/Volumes

folder. In there you'll see a folder named "Ice Truck". Delete that folder and restart and your drive will be "Ice Truck" again.
