Hi,

I'm thinking about buying SuperDuper! to backup my PowerBook G4 to a remote hard drive. I don't have a drive yet and am thinking of the LaCie mini Companion Hard Drive (250GB) as seen here (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/canadastore.woa/6114005/wo/uR5AXtBmJ7iv2ZPLINx11CMToqe/2.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.6.3)

Is this a good choice for a 250 GB drive for this task?

Will I be able to boot from this drive?

Thanks for the advice!

Cheers!

The link you sent doesn't work, unfortunately, and I'm not familiar with the drive. But you said "remote" -- is this the ethernet drive?

Sorry, remote was a poor choice of words. It is a firewire attached external hard drive. Here's a link that should work: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10476

Thanks.

If it is a firewire you should be able to boot on your Mac. I have the Maxtor 300 GB and it has firewire and USB, I used firewire for this reason.

Surprisingly, they don't indicate what chipset this drive uses (you want to make sure to have an Oxford-based drive, not an Oxford-compatible one). But, LaCie is generally not cutting corners, so it's likely just fine.

Make sure it's properly partitioned as "APM" (for Power PC) or "GUID" (for Intel) before you start copying to it.
