It seems SuperDuper is not far from what I need for backups of my 2nd HD (where /Users lives (not on boot disk)), but it says it won't run when "the screen is locked." Does this include when a password screensaver is running? I know the user in question must be logged in - is he/she technically not logged in during a pwd screensaver?

Someone please let me know. I'd like to sched for 3am daily backup ... when my screensaver is up and I'm asleep.

PS - My CPU itself never sleeps.

Actually, I think I was too conservative with that statement. It will run with a locked screensaver... it just won't run if you require a password when you wake the computer (if you set a wake event).

Hmm. Not sure I follow 100%.

This machine never sleeps. It's up 24/7. When I'm not using it, I have Energy Saver sleep the SCREEN after 15 mins and a screensaver kicks in (standard, one of OS X's) and have the screensaver require a password to leave the screensaver and get back to the desktop. No 'wake' ever took place aside from the LCD screen.

So will SuperDuper kick off a backup while the pwd-protected screensaver is running (and the machine is not asleep)? Also - in this scenario, would it cause the monitor to wake and illuminate when running? Tnx.

Yes, it will, on both accounts. The screen will wake and illuminate as well, at least with the current version of SuperDuper.
