Weird folder "dev" on target volume

There's a weird folder called "dev" on the target volume after a backup. I'm backing up my full volume and I run a script to attribute an icon to the target volume.

The "dev" folder is empty. Owner is System and Group is wheel.

Very strange. Why is this?

Not a weird folder: it's a standard part of OSX that's hidden when it's the startup volume. Please, don't delete it: it's important! :)
