How To B/U Folders

OK. I just bought and registered. Used it to clone a bootable b/u of my HD. Now I want to b/u other folders from other partitions, it wants to erase what I have just spent an hour backing up. Am I going to have to use SuperDuper for "volume" backups and Carbon Copy Cloner for "folder" back-ups. This seems silly! Are non-bootable files ok for a straight drag and drop? Does anyone understand what I am asking??? - Frank/Liberato

You can back up folders by using either "Copy Newer" or "Copy Different". But, in general, I strongly suggest using a separate destination for each source volume so you can use Smart Update, and make things much easier to restore should the occasion present itself.

is there anyway to speed up sd! ?

now that i have my clone on an external drive, i sorta want some mission critical files on my ipod and maybe a networked drive at work too and then keep these files frequently updated with smart copy.

but when i wrote a script to exclude all but a test folder, it seemed that sd! still searched through my 500,000 files just to copy the 10mb test folder.

any suggestions?

At present, we always scan the entire drive: there's no way to "short circuit" the scan. But we're pretty fast when scanning -- even when copying data, I can scan 3x that amount of data in about 10 minutes...

Liberato, I understand perfectly your question. I too have the same problem. I found that while SuperDuper! is perfect for a full backup of my drive, it's not really easy to use for backing up those little important daily folders...

I recommend SynchupX from Freeride coding (http://freeridecoding.net/en/02SYNCUPX) as a junior partner app to SuperDuper!. It has the same simplicty as SuperDuper! and is in no way a "competitor" to SuperDuper! -- in my point of view - I hope Dave will agree :rolleyes:
